Discover the Facts About Obesity – Learn the Obesity Solutions That Add Years to Your Life
By Lee Stewart Gowan

This article on obesity reveals the real facts about obesity revealed through tests conducted over the last thirty years. You will discover the mortality rate in adults and children has increased dramatically through poor eating habits and lack of fitness training. You will also learn the best obesity solutions.

Obesity rates in the U.S. have increased dramatically over the last 30 years, and obesity is now an epidemic in the United States. Data for 2007-2008 and 2008 onwards has indicated that approximately two thirds of U.S. adults and one fifth of U.S. children were either obese (defined for adults as having a body mass index [BMI] ≥30.0) or overweight (defined for adults as BMI of 25.0-29.9 and for children as at or above the 95%).

Being either obese or overweight increases the risk for many chronic, life threatening diseases (e.g., heart disease, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, and stroke). Although diet and exercise are key determinants of weight, environmental factors beyond the control of individuals (including lack of access to full-service grocery stores, high costs of healthy foods, and lack of access to safe places to play and exercise) contribute to increased obesity rates by reducing the likelihood of healthy eating and active living

The sex-specific BMI for age-growth charts showed that among adults, obesity prevalence doubled during 1980-2008, and recent data indicates that an estimated 33% of U.S. adults are overweight and 34% are obese, including nearly 6% are extremely obese (defined as BMI ≥40.0).

This level of obesity can only add to the mortality rate and there is a more than 75% chance of an obese person dying due to weight related diseases than a healthy and active person. Watching TV all day and playing video games which has become a national pastime I have to say contribute greatly to this unhealthy lifestyle that in the long term could shorten your life by an estimated 15 years.
