Working out with Dumbbells

When I am approached by people who are in search of effective workout techniques that can be done from the comforts of their home, I immediately point out the option of dumbells. For most people their experience of using a dumbbell is limited to performing a few bicep curls or lateral shoulder raises at the end of a workout. However the use of a dumbbell can be applied to an even more effective use—targeting all your basic muscle groups in a highly efficient fat burning workout routine.

I know what you’re thinking—it’s impossible—but in this case you would be wrong. The secret is simple—For a more effective fat burning rate and genuine advancement towards looking fit, you will need to consider doing much more than your basic bicep curl. The truth is, the ability to use dumbbells together, one at a time or in an alternating manner makes them one of the best fitness tools available. With over a hundred dumbbells exercises out there , there is no shortage of ways by which you can utilize these tools, with the right methods in generating highly effective, calorie burning and muscle building results.

True results can be achieved by utilizing your dumbbell sets in a series of training routines that are aimed at working all your body muscles and cardio regions. To this end, you will need to engage in maximum resulting exercises like deadlifts, step-ups, rowing movements and presses whilst remembering to pause regularly for rest periods which should last about a minute. Also to be considered for inclusion is the use of weight levels which permits an average of 10 reps per session. By employing the use of resistance training without stopping for long periods of rest, you will be able to raise your body’s intensity and energy levels which will in turn maximize your fat burning ratio.

Guaranteed workout techniques like the use of supersets, Tri sets of mini circuits (backed with about 5 mini exercises) are just some of the important methods which I include in my dumbbell workouts. It has been proved that prolonging your exercise routine automatically puts your heart in “fat burning mode” which is essential for burning those excess calories. The key though is too make sure the exercises chosen are performed in sequence so that the following exercise is using non competing muscle groups. A great dumbbell routine that I have used lots of times and highlights what I mean is:

Squat to Press

Bent over row

Chest Press

Reverse Lunges

2 arm Dumbell swings

From these routines, it is obvious that the entire body is experience a complete workout during most of the sesseions. You can also split this into 2 super sets with the dumbbell swings performed on their own at the end.

In order to achieve your fitness goals, it is important that you get the most out of your tools and workout sessions.  So, don’t overlook the power of full body dumbbell workouts.  If you have access to a set of dumbbells, you have everything you need to get a great workout. Because, odds are, the distance to your dumbbells is greatly shorter than that of the long trek to the gym!

So now stop and think about it! Isn’t a workout routine that is guaranteed to exercise all your muscles the true definition of the perfect workout?
