Women and Weight Training – What are the Benefits

Usually, women tend to avoid weight training.  This is due to the fact that women are afraid of bulking up as a result of using weights.  Unsurprisingly, not wanting to look like men, most women avoid weight training.

That weight training actually helps reduce weight, tone up the body and increase overall well being is a fact neglected by these women.  Also, they can take solace in that no weights can make them become like men because of two reasons.

1.      Being built differently, their body structure will not permit them to bulk up like men.

2.      The vital muscle building hormone testosterone is present in significantly smaller quantities in their bodies in comparison to that of men.

So,irrespective of the extent to which a woman works out she will not resemble a man.

Weight training actually offers women the added benefits of improved flexibility, better weight loss, improved strength and greater energy.

The fact that weight training done in combination with cardio exercises increases weight loss is one main reason why women are willing to do it. This is because muscles burn more calories and hence weight training burns more fats.

It is important to note that it is impossible to reduce only chosen fatty areas of your body.  This implies that fat cannot be lost from only chosen parts of the body.  So you might as well forget about getting perfect abs by doing 100 crunches every day.

Instead of focusing on specific body parts, your weight training regiment should focus on your entire body as a whole.  Depending on the structure of your body, the fat will disappear from different places at different times.

Embracing a program including weight training, cardio and a balanced diet will allow you to start seeing your body fat disappear and hence enhance the look of your muscles.

As is the case with men, the initial weights you lift must not be beyond your reasonable lifting abilities.  It is always better to start lighter and work your way up.

For the most efficient working of your body, every muscle group must be exercised at least three times a week, in combinations of two to three muscle groups a day.

By doing supersets you can ensure the best and effective work out of your body.

Supersets can be done by combining two weight training exercises that are related to different muscle groups.   These exercises are performed in alternation two or three times during the workout.

Performing each of the exercises correctly is necessary in order to avoid injuries.

As in the case of men, your exercise routine must be supplemented by a diet that promotes muscle growth.

Eating protein rich foods, fruits, vegetables and drinking lots of water will cause you to start seeing results more quickly.

As women are realizing the benefits and effectiveness of weight training, it is rapidly becoming more popular with them.  Due to the rapid increase in number of people who are obese and overweight, weight training is becoming increasingly popular amongst women in their weight loss programs.
