You'll find many challenges when it comes to managing a consistent work out at home, like the tv, your kids, a looming to-do list of chores and the telephone. Still, if you keep these 5 essential strategies in mind and enlist the help of those that love you you'll be well on your way towards success.

1. Put your exercise on the calendar. The consistency will help to ensure that you stick to the plan. This also sends a message that this time is is not to be taken away from you. Make sure you alert everyone to this time and don't let yourself or anyone else break it. Don't pick up the phone, answer emails or schedule occasional appointments during this period unless, of course, there is an emergency.

2. Invest in equipment to keep you motivated. If money is your motivation, perhaps investing in pricey workout equipment could put you over the top.

3. Find a buddy in the battle of the bulge. Having someone to depend on and who depends on you could be the silver bullet you've been missing to stay committed to a workout at home. You can even share the expense on equipment and supplies.

4. Change it up a bit. Even if you love to run now this doesn't mean you'll want to run next week or the week after that. If you want to keep things interesting for you and for your body both of which could get bored with monotony, change it up by adding in two or three different workouts each week or so.

5. Try it before you buy it. Hating your workout at home is a surefire way to end in failure. Consider getting a trial membership to a local gym and trying out every type of exercise that interests you before you buy a piece of equipment that will become a coat rack or injure yourself and vow never to exercise again.
