Designing A Supplementary Exercise Regime For Busy Moms At Home

It's tough to stick to much less begin an exercise regime when you're a stay-at-home parent but it's not impossible.  Fortunately, if you start to look at the day with a creative mind you'll find that a busy parents' day offers up many opportunities to sneak a work out in. It's all about knowing where to find them.  Here are some simple ideas for you to sneak in some of that all important exercise time that have never presented themselves to you before.

Get your children involved in your workout routine  Childhood obesity is on the rise, so, it's every parent's duty to ensure their entire family is keeping to a regular exercise regime.  Here's one idea: The next time you tell your children to go outside to play take the opportunity to play with them too.  Don't use your to-do list as an excuse not to get moving and spend time with your children.

Another great motivator is putting your workout clothes on as soon as you wake up and not letting yourself get out of them until your workout is complete. This way, you're ready to squeeze in that workout time at the instant you find an opportunity – for example, when the kids nod off for a nap or are watching "Yo-Gabba-Gabba".  Wearing your workout gear, you're also sending yourself a constant reminder that your exercise regime is a priority.

To be sure, the reality is that you won't get in your entire exercise regime every day.  If you can't get in a full workout, you can still sneak in brief stints of activity here and there.  For example, you can park farther away from the stores you visit to add a few additional steps to your day. Even better, make it a point to pick up the pace to and through the store.  Full-time parents can utilize small children as workout aides by using the tykes as dead weight for intense pushups and leg lifts.  The kids will treat it like an amusement park ride.  You can even sneak in sit-ups or lunges while waiting for your printer to finish that 50-page printing or the dryer to stop. Bottom line keeping to a healthy workout schedule will help you feel better it also helps you set an example for your kids in the long term.
