Choosing Home Fitness Gym Equipment

One of the biggest advantages to buying a home fitness gym is having a gym always available, twenty four hours a day. You can work out in your own home, in private. This often appeals to people who are not comfortable exercising in the company of strangers. Before purchasing a home gym there are some things to take into account to make sure you choose wisely.

Things to Take into Consideration

  • How much space is available in your home? Home fitness gyms can be very large so you need plenty of space and a firm base to place it on.
  • How much do you want to pay? A cheap, basic home gym can be a low as $500. A good quality multi gym with a comprehensive range of exercises can be as much as $5000.
  • Is a free weight system or a resistance system using rods, cables or built in weights right for you?

Advantages and Disadvantages of Home Fitness Gyms

With a home gym you can, of course, work out in private in your own home, the gym is always available and you won’t have to wait until someone else finishes before you can do your training. Your home gym is ready to use whenever you need it and there won't be any monthly club fees to pay. Consider not just the substantial benefits but the down sides too. A home gym is going to take up a lot of space and may be hard to set up initially. It may be easier to keep up an exercise routine at a gym among other people or with a personal trainer. A machine at home is always available and it's easy to put off using it to another day!

Choosing a Home Fitness Gym

The most important consideration, in our opinion, is how well made the unit is. A poorly made gym that is not sturdy will not give you a good workout and is not going to last for very long. This will not save you money in the long run. Look for a gym that is well made, preferable using 11 or 12 gauge steel tubing. In better quality gyms the joints are welded rather than bolted and they use strong, heavy duty tubing. Some of the higher quality gyms have lifetime warranties on parts but you at least get a three year warranty on parts and upholstery.

Having found a good quality gym at the right price find out how easy it will be to adjust and use. Look for one that makes it easy to change resistance and the type of exercise.  If it is too awkward to do this or too time consuming it can easily put you off your workout completely. You also need a home fitness gym that is comfortable to use with seats that are well padded and that can be easily cleaned. Convenience is not the only consideration here as you need seats and leg presses to be well padded to prevent injury and blisters.

Conclusion

If you are buying a fitness equipment home gym don't rush out and buy the first one you see. If it is possible try it out at a store or gym and find out all you can about how it works. Home gyms can be expensive and you don't want to make a purchase that you may regret later.
